Curriculum

 Curriculum Overview

The Nest curriculum has been developed by a team of educators with backgrounds in psychology, teaching and art & dance therapy. We have incorporated hands on activities, including art, movement and drama to meet girls at their level and bring the Nest curriculum to life.

Nest Collective guides will create a strong climate of openness, inclusion and safety to allow girls to share and take risks.

Our goal is to empower kids and give them a strong sense of agency and ownership within the program. The Nest curriculum focuses on building a mindset that incorporates 6 foundational skills and tools that will allow kids to soar in all aspects of life:

Identity

We will consider different aspects of identity to help each child understand what makes them special and unique. Gender norms and stereotypes will be explored as part of this investigation.  The Nest curriculum will help kids recognize and celebrate themselves, their identities and embody their real life superpowers.

Mindfulness

Kids will strengthen their abilities to focus attention in the here and now with curiosity and kindness.  By learning how to be mindful, our kids will learn how to be aware, grounded and non-judgmental in accepting their thoughts and emotions.  More than just being still, mindfulness is a true superpower.

Emotions

Kids will learn to identify emotions, gauge how intense they are and find positive coping strategies. They will also gain a better understanding of how positive emotions of gratitude and loving-kindness affect personal growth and connection to others.  Emotions are not only allowed, but encouraged at Nest Collective.

Friendships

Kids will understand the importance of strong, healthy and fulfilling friendship and what they can do to be a super friend to themselves and others.  They will gain practical Friendship 101 tools including how to make new friends in different settings, be inclusive of others and manage friendship challenges.  The importance of direct communication will be highlighted.

Communication

Kids will learn to communicate using the principles of Compassionate Communication, which helps us use empathy to improve the quality of our relationships.  We will learn how to use Compassionate Communication towards ourselves and others to identify unmet needs and communicate requests assertively, effectively and respectfully.

Confidence

Kids will appreciate the benefits of a growth mindset and being open to making mistakes and reframing them as opportunities to learn and grow.  They will be encouraged to embrace their own authentic identities and appreciate what makes the special.  We will help girls to think positively, speak assertively and appreciate the power of their voice.
